#N/AWrite an introduction to an informative and factual blog post titled "The Woman Who Made Poundcake".%COUNT% I am the woman who made Poundcake. I am also president of the Women's Club. I was born in 1846 in Boston, Massachusetts, and by 1865 my family was living in Cincinnati where my father built a business; they lived there for about ten years. At the age of thirty-five, I married George Louis Buffa, who later became mayor of Cincinnati. We had two children together, both boys—Alfredo and Joel—and then we were blessed with twin girls twenty years later: Edith Louise and Alice Francesna. %COUNT% Although I was very young when my father died, he left me a good business which has made me quite wealthy. Because of this, I never had to work after marriage. Instead, I devoted my life to the children. Later on I started teaching kindergarten, which was something new at that time, but it gave me many opportunities to teach children about nutrition and various other things that children need to know. As the other mothers in the community asked me for lessons for their children, I began visiting other families who lived in Cincinnati's West End neighborhood. This is where I first met Mrs. Bernice Sprague. She was just married to Mr. Sprague, and she lived in the midst of the horse stables right behind my home, so we were neighbors. At first, I taught two classes of five students each, but soon I would have more than fifty students. It was then that I realized how it would be to be a teacher instead of only running the business alone. Soon I had more than one class of seventy-five or eighty children. %COUNT% Because I had grown up with horses on my father's farm, they were always one of my favorite subjects to teach about recess time, and soon they became very popular at my school for children. I would always let the children who had the best behavior and grades to take care of and ride on horseback. Each day there were at least four or five children using those horses. %COUNT% For my students who rode horses, I designed an activity called "The Undertaker's" business card. It was more than just a game; it had some keys to success as well as lesson for life for those who participate in it. I would tell the story of a funeral and a man who did things very wrong, but somehow he did get a reward in the end for all his hard work. The children would play the game and see what was going on behind it all. The goal was to get to the last card, one that pointed out where the dead person lived. When they got there, they were supposed to visit that person to ask for help or help someone else get their secret package from them—a way of saying good-bye. Then they had to meet back at school at recess time and report what they had been doing.
